KOH PHANGAN

Located north of Koh Samui in the southern Gulf of Thailand, Koh Phangan is Thailand’s fifth largest island.  Archeological evidence of human activity dates back 2000 years, but the island had no official settlements until about 1400AD when passing monks, recognizing Koh Phangan’s tranquility and spiritual significance, settled in Wat Phu Khao Noi just outside Thong Sala. From that time on Koh Phangan has been recognized by the Thai people as a place of beauty and spirituality. The island has been visited by four Kings seeking to benefit from the island's peaceful atmosphere. King Chulalongkorn (Rama V) visited more than ten times between 1888 and 1909 and left his royal seal engraved on a rock at Thaan Sadet Waterfall.

ISLAND LIFE

Koh Phangan has been famous for full moon parties for many years, but the island is also becoming an internationally recognized destination for its yoga retreats and eco-tourism.   Koh Phangan has been classified by the Thai Government as an “Eco-Tourism Zone” – with much of the island designated as National Park land, more than 90% of the island’s tropical rainforest are virtually untouched.  There is an abundance of wildlife on land and in the sea.
